BORIS UKHANANOV. FAITH CULTURE IN THE USSR
Program of "Festival Performance", Glasgo | October 1988BORIS UKHANANOV. FAITH CULTURE IN THE USSR

The decisive break in attitude towards youth culture in the USSR came about in 1986/87. The young generation came out of the underground. New Independent journals appeared which were mentioned in the press. Exhibitions of new paintings were organised. One of the Independent Journals that emerged during those years is called Clne Fantom. This journal embraces the works of young theoreticians, young cinema directors, the group of young painters that calls themselves 'new'. This group consists of young Leningrad and Moscow painters. The work of the 'Theatre of Theatre' belongs here. These actors, painters, rock musicians and writers together organised the first independent non-state supported theatre. This company will be seen at Third Eye Centre during the New Beginnings season in November 1989. Boris Ukhananov will be talking about the three most contemporary tendencies in Soviet Art: 'Parallel Cinema', visual art and theatre. He will show slides, video-films, talk about the theory of video-film making and will show some of his own films.

1. The Mansion (1986)
2. Noughts and Crosses (1987)
3. The Mad & Fassbinder (1988)
4. A documentary film about the theatre, an anthology of showings from parallel cinema.
